A passion for the “built environment”, both interior design and architecture started at a young age for Sundra. This interest lead to a undergraduate degree in interior design from Marymont University. Seeking greater knowledge of the world of exterior planes, Sundra then received her Masters of Architecture from University of Florida. Her education was complimented by traveling Europe, where she could appreciate the context architecture with history. Upon her return she gained professional experience at architectural firms on the Front Range before moving to the Western Slope of Colorado in 2005. Since then, her intention as the leader of Hines Designs has been focused on impactful residential and commercial commissions and her work can be found throughout the region.
Rather than identifying with a particular “style” of design, Sundra melds the needs of her client with the topography of the build site, resulting in a unique piece of natural architecture. Sundra supports environmental stewardship by employing passive and active solar systems to facilitate environmental efficiencies. It is common practice to use Structural Insulated Panels, Insulated Concrete Forms, and cutting edge technologies to strengthen efficiency and performance of the building. In this harsh environment of the San Juans, maintenance free materials and quality design details are a must. Proper planning of the building envelope and its surface is money saved by the client in the future. Sundra strongly believes in honest and open communication. This candid relationship allows for beautiful, well-crafted structures and long lasting friendships.
